William C. "Bill" Swartz, Jr.

                William C. "Bill" Swartz, Jr., 75, of Oil City, died peacefully Sunday morning, May 29, 2016 at the Caring Place in Franklin.

                He was born in Oil City on February 25, 1941 to the late William C. Swartz, Sr. and Olive M. (Wetzel) Swartz. 

                Bill was a 1959 graduate of Oil City High School before earning an associate degree in business from the Buffalo School of Business.

                Mr. Swartz then served in the U.S. Army during peacetime from 1962-1965, completing various administrative duties. 

                He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Oil City and was recently attending services at the Oil City Free Methodist Church with his family. 

                Bill was active for many years as both a coach and president of the Oil City Little League Association.  He was well known for officiating high school swim meets, and served as a youth leader at Grace United Methodist.  Bill enjoyed mentoring children, and his efforts made positive influences on the lives of many youth in the area.  He also enjoyed spending time with his family and his grandchildren.

                Mr. Swartz was employed in the payroll department for A.K. Steel (formerly Cytemp) until 1993.  He owned and operated the Sunoco Station (now Country Fair) on Oil City's Southside for many years before retiring from Venango County's Area Agency on Aging, where he delivered meals. 

                He was married on December 3, 1965 by Rev. Orin Womer in Calvary Church E.B.U. to the former Georgia A. Beach, and she preceded him in death on November 18, 2009.

                Surviving is his daughter, Elizabeth A. Goodman and her husband Joe, and their children, Corey and Megan Middleton and Bryce Goodman, of Seneca; and his son, David J. Swartz and his wife Lisa, and their children, Will, Ella, and Ethan, of Oil City.  Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. 

                In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorthea Crepp.

                Friends will be received Tuesday (May 31) from 4 - 8 p.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township.  Additional visitation will be held Wednesday (June 1) from 11 a.m. until 12 noon in the Free Methodist Church, 206 Wilson Ave. in Oil City, where the funeral service will follow at 12 noon.  The Rev. Chris Hill, church pastor, will officiate.  

                A committal service and interment will follow in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens in Cranberry, with full military honors accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard.
