Death Certificates

The responsible staff at Hile-Best Funeral Home will obtain the original death certificate signed by a doctor or medical examiner. We will complete the information required on the death certificate and have certified copies of the certificate made by the registrar. Currently in Pennsylvania, a certified copy of a death certificate is $6.00 (at the time of death, shortly after, the fee increases to $9.00). To approximate the number of death certificates needed, it may be necessary to inventory the deceased’s personal assets, such as bank accounts, retirement or pension plans, investment accounts, real estate or property titled or deeded in their name, insurance policies, etc. We will notify Social Security of the death with Form SSA-721, so you will not need a death certificate for Social Security purposes.
