Edna Mae 'Maisie' Thorpe

June 17, 1930 ~ October 23, 2016 (age 86) 86 Years Old


 

            Edna Mae "Maisie" Thorpe, 86, of Youngsville, formerly of Seneca and Sugar Grove, went to be her Lord on Sunday afternoon, October 23, 2016 at the Rouse Estate in Youngsville, while surrounded by family and friends.   

            Born on June 17, 1930 in Sugar Grove, Warren County, she was a daughter of the late Alden A. and Hazel M. (Boswell) Stearns. 

            Maisie graduated in 1947 from Sugar Grove High School, and was salutatorian of her class. 

            She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Sugar Grove, Daughters of American Colonists, and Daughters of the American Revolution.  She also volunteered with the hospice program in Warren County for a number of years. 

            Mrs. Thorpe was a member of the Seneca United Methodist Church, and was also active in her earlier years with the Sugar Grove Presbyterian Church as well as the E.U.M. Church in Youngsville. Maisie was a devoted Christian throughout her life and enjoyed reading her bible and singing hymns. 

            Maisie enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

            Mrs. Thorpe assisted her husband, Marvin, in the operation of their service station and auto repair garage in Sugar Grove for twenty-seven years, helping with clerical and office duties. 

            She was married in Busti, New York on September 23, 1950 to Marvin E. Thorpe, who survives. 

            Also surviving are two children, Karlene Johnson and her husband Greg of Seneca, and Kurt Thorpe of Monroe, North Carolina; two grandsons, Kristopher Johnson and his wife Pamela of Oil City and Andrew Johnson and his wife Amanda of Wattsburg; eight great-grandchildren; her sister, Helen Clark of Sugar Grove; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. 

            In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thorpe was preceded in death by two sons, Kris and Kevin Thorpe; and three sisters, Lucy Norlander, Esther Thompson, and Ruth Thompson. 

            Friends and family will be received Wednesday (Oct. 26th) from 9 - 11:30 a.m. at the First United Presbyterian Church, 202 Main Street, Sugar Grove, PA  16350.  The funeral service will follow from the church Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Nancy Page, church pastor, officiating. 

            Private interment will be in the Wesleyan Cemetery, Warren County. 

            Memorial contributions may be made to the Warren County Hospice Program, 2 West Crescent Park, Warren PA  16365; or to the Sugar Grove Library, 22 Harmon Street, Sugar Grove PA  16350.
