John E. Barrett, Sr.

            John E. Barrett, Sr., 65, of Cranberry, died peacefully on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loved ones.

            He was born in Oil City on March 19, 1951 to the late Harry A. and Mae K. (Rodgers) Barrett.

            John graduated in 1971 from Cranberry High School. 

            He was supporter of the Venango County 4-H Fair and enjoyed helping his grandchildren with their fair projects.  He also assisted his wife and daughter with the activities of their Girl Scout troop, and was involved with his son in Boy Scouts. 

            John enjoyed hunting, fishing, helping around the Biddle Farm, and spending time with his family and grandchildren. 

            Mr. Barrett worked many years at the Windy Hill Dairy Farm in Titusville and was also a school van driver for Cranberry Bus Co.  He retired from Electralloy in Oil City in April, following 42 years of service. 

            He was married in the Coal Hill Free Methodist Church on July 22, 1972 to the former Linda J. Silvis, and she survives, along with two children:  John E. Barrett, Jr. and his wife Megan of Lima, Ohio, and Shannon R. Perrin and her husband Shawn of Oil City; six grandchildren:  Nicholas Barrett, Michaela Eakin, Taylor Beers, and Ellianna, Mirabelle, and Emma Barrett; a brother, Raymond Barrett and his wife Eva of Tippery; a sister, Helen Blystone of Oil City; a special aunt, Donna Barrett of Cranberry; a special friend, Christopher Boal; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

            Also surviving are his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law:  Rose Tebay, Ed Silvis and his wife Madeliene, Ron Silvis and his wife Flo, Jerry Silvis and his wife Bonnie, Larry Silvis and his wife Pat, and Tom Silvis and his wife Sue. 

            In addition to his parents,  John was preceded in death by his sister and her husband, Linda and Allen Wilcox; a brother, Ricky J. Barrett; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edward and Emogene Silvis; and a brother-in-law, Jim Silvis. 

            Friends will be received Sunday (Nov. 20) from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, Inc., 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township.  The funeral service will be held in the funeral home Monday (Nov. 21) at 11 a.m. with Rev. Rob Kifer and Dr. Robert Hrisak officiating. 

            Interment will follow in Craig Hill Cemetery, Pinegrove Township, near Fertigs. 

            Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
