Glenn O. Beck

Glenn O. Beck, 89, of Maplewood Drive, Franklin, formerly of Oil City, died at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at his residence.

He was born in Knox on January 22, 1927, a son of the late Charles Herman and Edith Theresa (Oakes) Beck.

He attended schools in Knox before enlisting in the Navy and served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He later enlisted in the Air Force and served during Korea and Vietnam.

Glenn was a lifetime member of the Oil City VFW Post 464. He enjoyed hunting in his earlier years, and always loved attending cookouts and gatherings with his friends and family.

Mr. Beck was employed by Dresser Industries in Olean, New York; Electralloy in Oil City; and also worked at the McDonald's restaurant in Oil City.

He was married in Pleasantville on August 19, 1997 to the former Emma M. Swartzfager, and she survives.

Also surviving are five step-daughters, Brenda Williams of Franklin, Donna Winger of Oil City, Diana Shooke of Seneca, Bonnie West of Saranac Lake, N.Y., and Becky Miller of Franklin; thirteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Also surviving is his cousin (who was like a brother), Jim Middleton of Oil City; and two brothers-in-law, Paul Swartzfager and his wife Susie of Oil City, and Wayne Swartzfager and his wife June of Daytona Beach, Florida.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, June Peterson and Bonnie Beck; and a brother, Carl Beck.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service and gathering to celebrate Glenn's life on Saturday (Aug. 20th) beginning at 11 a.m. in the Oil City V.F.W., 2 Relief Street in Oil City. Rev. Mark Rusnak, hospice chaplain for AseraCare Hospice will officiate. The VETS Honor Guard will accord military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to AseraCare Hospice, 1600 Peninsula Drive, Suite 14, Erie, PA 16505.
