William "Bill" Paxton Obituary

   William E. “Bill” Paxton, 60, of Oil City, died Monday night, November 25, 2024 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, surrounded by his loving family. 

   He was born in Oil City on May 26, 1964 to the late Carl O’Neil and Shirley Paxton. 

   He was a 1982 graduate of Oil City High School.

   He was a former leader of Boy Scout Troop 17 in Oil City.

   Bill enjoyed woodworking, camping, and spending time with his family.  He loved a good (bad) “dad joke” and felt anytime was a good time to eat ice cream!  He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers. 

   Bill worked for Groot Roofing in Oil City for many years.  He also worked for Venango County in the Drug & Alcohol Case Management Program, and most recently was employed as a truck driver for Heath Oil.  

    He was married in Oil City on April 19, 1986 to the former Cynthia D. Britt, and she survives. 

    Also surviving are three children: Ashley Gable and her husband Eric of Venango Borough, Wesley Paxton and his wife Meghan of Oil City, and James Paxton and his wife Jolene of Wooster, Ohio.  Bill cherished his six grandchildren: Hunter and Lilly Gable, Jaden and Abriella Smalley, and William and Deborah Paxton. 

    Also surviving are two brothers-in-law, Rich Britt and wife Dawn, and Jeff Britt and wife Sue; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Rosemary Britt; a brother, Richard O’Neil; his grandparents, William and Edith Paxton; and several aunts and uncles. 

    Visitation for friends and family will be held Monday (Dec. 2) from 10 a.m. until noon at Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca.  A funeral service will follow in the funeral home Monday at noon with Pastor Dustin Heath, officiating. 

    Private interment for the immediate family will follow in Shaw Farm Cemetery on Grandview Road in Oil City.
