William "Bill" L. Moon, Sr.

June 13, 1937 ~ February 26, 2019 (age 81) 81 Years Old

William "Bill" Moon, Sr. Obituary

              William Lee Moon, Sr., 81, of Cranberry, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, February 26, 2019 at The Caring Place in Franklin. 

            He was born in Oil City on June 13, 1937 to the late Clair and Grace Hockman Moon. 

            Mr. Moon was a former member of the Seneca Volunteer Fire Department's Fire Police.  He and his wife were season ticket-holders at Ponderosa Park in Ohio, where they enjoyed many country music concerts together.   

            He was of the Protestant faith. 

            Bill enjoyed hunting with his son, collecting coins, and was a Pittsburgh Pirates baseball fan. 

            Mr. Moon was employed for more than thirty years with Wolf's Head Oil Refinery in Reno. 

            He was married on August 6, 1960 to the former Ginger M. Flinchbaugh, and she preceded him in death on July 17, 2017.

            Surviving are two granddaughters:  April R. Moon of Oil City, and Rachel L. Kapp and her husband Brandon of Oil City; two great-grandchildren: Lydia and William Kapp; a daughter-in-law, Tina Moon of Oil City; two sisters: Sharon Heller of Seneca and Judy Flinchbaugh and her husband Jim of Venus; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

            In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his son, William L. Moon, Jr.; two sisters, Betty Winger and Beverly Wice; and two brothers, Edward and Robert Moon. 

            Friends and family will be received Friday (March 1st) from 10 a.m. until noon in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township, where the funeral service will follow Friday at noon, with Rev. William E. Hastings, pastor of Seneca United Methodist Church, officiating.  Private interment will follow in Brandon Cemetery in Cranberry. 

            Mr. Moon's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at The Caring Place for the excellent care and compassion that they provided to Bill. 

            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Seneca Fire Dept. (Fire Police), P.O. Box 272, Seneca, PA  16346; or to The Caring Place (Activities Fund), 103 N. 13th St., Franklin, PA 16323.
