Virginia L. Johnson

            Virginia Lee Johnson, 95, of Franklin, passed peacefully at 2:55 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at Sugarcreek Station in Franklin. 

            She was born in Franklin on April 26, 1930 to the late George H. and Pearl Audrey (Tingley) Cobb of Cooperstown. 

            She attended schools at Rocky Grove and Franklin. 

            Virginia was a loving mother of five children, that she dedicated her life to. She enjoyed being home as well as going on trips for family beach vacations to Myrtle Beach and spending sunny summer days at Stoneboro Lake. She once drove a race car and had an adventurous spirit. She made lots of delicious homemade foods, and could bake wonderfully, just about beyond belief. Her pie, especially Apple Pie, was one of the best! When asked about her recipe, she would say a tall cup or a short cup, a pinch of this, and a little of that… it was hard to replicate her exact pie dough, as she didn’t use a set recipe; she typically measured “by eye”. She was very kind, loving and giving. She had many good friends and will be missed by all.

            "Ginny" enjoyed shopping, especially with her kids. She always had an eye for fashion. She loved listening to music and kept current with artists. She could pick a top 40 hit song after the first time hearing it. She was in the Cooperstown Band and enjoyed playing the clarinet and in her youth played the violin with her father. She loved updating and decorating her home and always had the vision and a well trained eye for interior design. She was an avid reader and typically read at least one book weekly. She enjoyed golfing and swimming, horseback riding, and loved all of the family pets. She also loved planting flowers in the spring, going to May Mart and the Applefest Pancake Breakfast yearly. She was very knowledgeable about antiques and was a collector of a variety of things. She had various other hobbies that she enjoyed as well. Virginia enjoyed attending church with her children.

            She worked at the Oil City Glass Plant and then later had a long career at Polk Center from where she retired.  She also managed Rocky Ridge Village and enjoyed keeping busy.

            She is survived by her children: Tammera "Tammy" O'Polka and her husband Richard, Holly Dawn Brinker and her husband Duane "Butch" Brinker, Lisa Michelle Brannon and her husband Ed, and Daniel Eric Johnson and his significant other Chris; five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

            She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Richard E. Baker; her sisters, Ruth Anderson, Erma (Harrah) Dickson, and Norma (Doyle) Senott; and her former spouses, Richard "Gene" Baker and Donald E. Johnson.

            As Virginia wished, a private service will be held for immediate family. Virginia will be laid to rest at Cooperstown Cemetery with her family attending.

            The family would like to extend a special thank you for all of the love and prayers that you've sent. Many thanks and gratitude for the caring staff at Sugarcreek Station and also for her Hospice staff, for the all of their devoted time, care and the love given to her.
