Victor Beck Obituary

Victor A. Beck, 85, of Rockland, died at Shippenville Healthcare & Rehabilitation on Saturday evening, June 8, 2019.

He was born in Dagus Mines in Elk County on December 6, 1933; a son to the late Jeremiah and Florence (Carlson) Beck.

He graduated from Weedville High School in 1952. Mr. Beck was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1953 through 1957, assigned to the Construction Battalion. In 1963, he earned a bachelor's degree in Education from Clarion State College.

He was an active member of the First Free Methodist Church in Oil City.

Vic enjoyed reading, gardening, wood-working, and helping others.

Mr. Beck taught History at the Oil City Middle School for more than twenty years. Following his retirement from teaching, he worked as a courier for Mellon Bank; and also as a custodian at the Oil City Free Methodist Church.

He was married in Oil City on June 1, 1963 to the former Leta Slye, and she survives. They recently celebrated 56 years of marriage.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Leta, are three children: Charles Allan Beck and his wife Melissa of Chugiak, Alaska, Charlotte Kowalewski and her husband Steve of Landisburg, and Milo Beck and his wife Abby of Venus; a son-in-law, John Martincic of Phoenix, Arizona; nine grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lorraine Martincic; and his brothers and sisters.

Friends and family will be received in the Free Methodist Church, 206 Wilson Avenue in Oil City on Wednesday (June 12) from 6 - 8 p.m. and on Thursday (June 13) from noon until 1 p.m. The funeral service will follow Thursday (June 13) at 1 p.m. in the Free Methodist Church, with Rev. T. Christopher Hill, church pastor, officiating. Following the funeral service, full military honors will be accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard. Private interment will be in Rockland Cemetery in Kennerdell, Rockland Township.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Free Methodist Church, 206 Wilson Ave, Oil City, PA 16301.
