Susan Rumburd Obituary

Susan Ann (Piercy) Rumburd, 70, of Seneca, passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early hours of March 6, 2024.

She was born December 21, 1953 in Oil City, she was the only daughter of the late Fred W. and Cecilia M. (Swionder) Piercy.

Susan grew up on Main Street in Seneca, directly across from Mong’s Dairy.  Her father had worked for Mong’s and she often joked she was the “milkman’s daughter.”  She enjoyed following her big brothers Fred and John around, and helping her mother with her little brother, Bill.

In her early years, she loved ice skating on Mong’s Pond, roller skating, and on a sunny day – skipping class to hang with her girlfriends Faye, Tammy, and Julie at the local swimming spot.

She was a graduate of Cranberry High School.  Shortly after graduation she moved to Denver, Colorado where she began dating her lifelong love and soulmate, Thomas “Rum.”

She and Rum moved back to Seneca and were married on April 27, 1974.  They spent the remainder of their lives together until Tom’s passing this past January.  After his passing she felt as though she was missing half of herself.  We now believe that she has been made whole, joining him with our Heavenly Father above.

Sue worked more than 30 years at Polk Center, first working with residents in the cottages before retiring in her dream position of running their greenhouse.

Gardening was her true passion.  On a sunny day, you could find her tending her flower beds and making beautiful planters.

After retiring, Sue made frequent trips to North Carolina to visit her family.  She enjoyed every moment spent with them.

She leaves behind her daughter, Lisa Marie Rumburd (and her fiancé Chris) of Holly Springs, N.C.; her son, Rob Rumburd (and his partner Alexandra), and her grandsons, Ryan and Isaac, all of Raleigh, N.C.; three brothers, Fred Piercy (Jill) of Blue Ridge Summit, PA, John Piercy (Linda) of Seneca, and Bill Piercy (Dixie) of Stanfield, N.C.

Also surviving is her mother-in-law, Bea Hosea of Oil City; four sisters-in-law, Barb Bouquin (Pierre) of Honaunau, Hawaii, Deborah Rumburd, Connie Zimoski  (Mike) all of Oil City, and Patty McChesney (Leon) of Tom’s Brook, Virginia; as well as several nieces and nephews across the United States.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Joseph and Aniela Swionder of Oil City and Fred and Carrie Piercy of Seneca.

Family and friends will be received Tuesday (March 12) from 5:00 – 7:30 p.m. in Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca.  A brief celebration of Sue’s life will then follow at 7:30 p.m. for family to share stories and memories.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Sue’s memory may be made to the Venango County Humane Society, 286 South Main St. Seneca, PA  16346.

A Celebration of Life for both Sue and Rum will be held later this summer, and those details will be announced at a later date.
