Stephen Thomas Shaffer, 72, of Cranberry, went Home to his Lord and Savior on Monday night, April 13, 2026 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Oil City on November 6, 1953 to the late Kenneth Earl Shaffer; and his dear sweet mother survives, Nancy Lois (Morrison) Shaffer, of Seneca.
Steve was a lifelong resident of Cranberry Township, graduating in 1971 from Cranberry High School. While still in school, he started in the workforce, having an early morning job at The Donut Shoppe, where he would often bring donuts as bribes to his teachers. He then worked at The Oil Well Supply until it's closing. From there, he began a job at Kapp Alloy and Wire, where he forged many lifelong relationships that he truly cherished. His co-workers there were like family.
When he retired, he served his Atlantic Ave. Church family by working in the kitchen, cooking, serving, cleaning, and making sure everyone had a smile on! His church involvement was a large and important part of his life. He was active with mission trips, the Men's group, and worked at the church as the maintenance man.
Steve loved old cars and was a good body man. He had a talent for making scratches and dents look good again! He could always be found in his garage, and never charged his worth; he was always happy to just be able to help others.
His prized hobby projects were a 1934 Ford Coupe and a 1969 Mustang which he fully restored.
In addition to his car hobby, he had a love for hunting with friends and family, which always lead to amazing adventures and stories while hunting on the Hut on the Rock, where he's hunted on since he was twelve years old.
He married Wendy Lynn (Hardenburg) on September 21, 2001, and whole-heartedly accepted and claimed her children, Melissa Stewart (Dewey), and Bryan Weber, as his very own. He is also survived by two daughters, Melissa Shaffer and Marcia Shaffer Heilner, from a previous marriage to Roberta Spence. He loved his family beyond measure. Steve was a very proud Grandpa to ten grandchildren: Tyler, Jacob, Lucas, Preston, Aubrey, Kennedy, Morgan, Bryan, Lyllie, and Raelynn. They all put a special twinkle in his eyes. Steve is also survived by his mother, Nancy; two sisters, Debbie Snyder and Nancy "Diane" Moon; and his in-laws, Jim and Kathy Rogers.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ken Shaffer; his grandparents, Hank and Lois Morrison and Lorin and Florence Shaffer; and an infant brother, James Scott Shaffer.
Visitation will be held Friday (April 17) from Noon - 2 and 5 - 7 p.m. in the Atlantic Ave. Church, 160 Atlantic Ave in Franklin. Visitation will also be held on Saturday (April 18) from 10-11 a.m. in the church, where the funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Brad Riddle, officiating. Private interment will follow in Brandon Cemetery in Cranberry.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hillman Cancer Center, AseraCare Hospice, or the Kirtland Cancer Foundation.
