Shirley Ann (Slater) Schwab, 86, of Seneca, passed peacefully at her home on Friday afternoon, August 15, 2025.
She was born in Oil City on June 13, 1939; a daughter to the late Mary (Wenner) Heasley and Harry M. Slater, and a bonus daughter of the late Clair W. Heasley whom she called Dad.
Shirley was a 1957 graduate of Oil City High School and a 1960 graduate of the Hamot Hospital School of Nursing in Erie. She also attended the off-campus College of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois.
She was a member of the former Seneca United Methodist Church.
She retired from Northwest Medical Center in Franklin where she worked many years as a registered nurse; and later worked as a tipstaff at the Venango County Courthouse.
She married Clair E. “Dutch” Schwab on September 22, 1962 at the First Baptist Church in Oil City, and he survives.
Also surviving is their daughter, Amy Jo Lloyd; and their granddaughter, Alexa Paige Lloyd, both of State College; a special friend, Teresa Ann Guiler, who was like a daughter to Shirley, and the mother of two special young men, Zachary and Ethan Horchler, who called her Grammy.
Visitation will be held Tuesday (Aug. 19) from 6 - 8 p.m. in Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca; and on Wednesday from noon until 1 p.m., where a funeral service to celebrate Shirley’s life will follow Wednesday at 1 p.m., officiated by Pastor Gregory Dill, VNA Hospice Chaplain. The Oil Region Nurse's Honor Guard will conduct a memorial service in honor of Shirley's career in Nursing. Interment will follow in Fertigs Cemetery.
