Phillip P. "Phil" Barscz, 60, of Oil City, died unexpectedly of natural causes on Friday, October 11, 2024 in Cattaraugus County, New York, while traveling for work.
He was born in Franklin on January 2, 1964 to Evon L. (McClelland) Barscz Myers of Seneca and the late Steven T. Barscz.
He was a graduate of Cranberry High School.
He served in the U.S. National Guard, beginning in Oil City, and later transferring to Fort Indiantown Gap in Annville, PA. He was an artillery specialist and he served in the Guard for 28 years.
Phil enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, repairing vehicles, and doing yard work. He took great pride in keeping his lawn in excellent condition. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
He enjoyed his work as a local carpenter/contractor. Most recently, he worked as a traveling carpenter all over the east coast repairing modular and mobile homes for Eric Kerr Contracting based in Leeper.
He is survived by his mother, Evon Myers of Seneca; two sisters, Josephine Julian of Smethport and Georgia Ellis and her husband Melvin of Kaneville; his nieces and nephews: Blake Julian, Chad Julian and wife Meghan, Amber Julian, Devin Littlefield, Dillion Littlefield, and Danielle Littlefield; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. He is also survived by an aunt, Rosella McClelland of Titusville; and an uncle, Darwin McClelland of Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his father, Steven T. Barscz; his step-father, Gary Myers, Sr., a brother, Stephen Barscz; an aunt, Marcella Link; an uncle, Donald McClelland; his paternal grandparents, Frank and Josephine Barscz; and his maternal grandparents, Bertram J. and Harriett E. (Fransico) McCelland.
Visitation will be held Friday (October 18) from noon - 2 p.m. in Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, where a service of military funeral honors will follow Friday at 2 p.m., accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard. Interment will follow in Brandon Cemetery in Cranberry.
