Patricia Lane Sheffer, 95, of Wesbury Retirement Community in Meadville PA, went Home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

She was born in Oil City on July 30, 1929, a daughter of the late Walter Jack Lane and Bernice West Lane.

Patricia was a 1947 graduate of Oil City High School and a 1951 graduate of Clarion State Teachers College.

She was married in 1951 to Merle Sheffer, and he preceded her in death in 2014 following 63 wonderful years of marriage.

Patricia and Merle resided in Arizona, New Jersey, Indiana and Pennsylvania, and she enjoyed being connected to local evangelical churches in each location.

She was a lady with deep personal faith in Christ, and she was born again in Christ Jesus in 1940.

Patricia’s highest priorities in life were her Christian faith, her family, and her friends.  Pat was a member of the chime choir at Grace Village in Indiana for twelve years.  She enjoyed family picnics, cooking and baking, and was known for her legendary Juneberry pies!  She enjoyed accompanying her husband on piano while he played his trumpet and other brass instruments in various local churches and bands.

Mrs. Sheffer had a teaching career in the Oil City and Cranberry public elementary schools.

Surviving is her son, Gordon K. Sheffer and his wife Barbara of Cochranton PA. Also surviving are family members David West and wife Kathy of Temperance, Michigan; Rebecca Carnes of Aurora, Colorado; and Thomas West of Oil City; and her grandchildren who reside in various states and countries: Adam Sheffer, Benis Carnes, Grace LaConte, Susan Holtzscher, Leah Klint, Sarah West, Caitlin Kainz, Melissa West, and Lorilee West. Pat is also survived by twelve great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and a sister-in-law, Pauline Lane.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Lane; a nephew, Eddie Lane; and a niece, Eleanor Lewis.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 3rd from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. in Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, where a memorial service will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Sam Marchetta, chaplain at Wesbury, officiating.  Interment will follow at Brandon Cemetery in Cranberry.

Memorial contributions may be made to a church or Christian ministry of one's choice.

The family wishes to thank Gentiva Hospice of Meadville and the Wesbury staff for their wonderful care to Patricia during the final weeks of her life.
