Mary T. "Gerty" Alcorn, 90, of Oil City, passed away peacefully at her home at 4:36 a.m. on Thursday morning, November 14, 2019.
She was born in Oil City on November 28, 1928 to the late Charles A. Staab, Sr. and Cecilia (Selker) Staab.
She was a 1946 graduate of St. Joseph High School in Oil City.
Mary was a member of the Venango County Genealogy Club.
She enjoyed being the family historian, researching the Selker and Staab family trees. Gerty also enjoyed crocheting, traveling, shopping, reading, and family get-togethers. In her earlier years, she was an avid ice skater.
Mrs. Alcorn was employed in her earlier years with Pennzoil, and as a stenographer with United Natural Gas Company (now National Fuel). She then became a dedicated homemaker, caring for her family.
She was married in Oil City on September 1, 1950 to Glenn M. "Max" Alcorn, and he preceded her in death on October 14, 2012.
Surviving are five children: Dave Alcorn and his wife Sue of East Liverpool, Ohio, Deb "Rosy" Cunningham and her husband Gerry of Oil City, Tom Alcorn and his wife Therese of Oil City, Don Alcorn and his wife Aimee of Lebanon, and Dennis Alcorn and his wife Kelly of Oil City; eight grandchildren: Andy Cunningham of Oil City, Chris Cunningham of Franklin, Dan Cunningham and his spouse Kelsey of Oil City, Matthew Alcorn of Oil City, Courtney Alcorn and her spouse Kayla of Franklin, Kaitlyn Alcorn of Oil City, and Logan and Caeden Alcorn, both of Lebanon.
Also surviving is her brother, Joseph Staab of Erie; a sister, Margaret Toscano of Erie; a niece, Janet Staab of Baltimore, Maryland, whom Mary considered a second daughter; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James C. Alcorn, who died December 13, 2017; three brothers, Bernard, Charles, and Eugene Staab; and a sister, Sister Janet Staab.
Friends will be received Saturday (Nov. 16) from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, Inc., 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home Saturday (Nov. 16) at 2 p.m. with Mr. Jay Ferringer, officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens in Cranberry.
