Martha Young Obituary

                Martha M. Young, 83, of Oil City, died peacefully at her residence on Monday night, April 28, 2025, following a terminal illness. 

                She was born in Washington, Pennsylvania on May 25, 1941 to the late Aaron F. and Minnie Madeline (Rodgers) Conner. 

                She was a graduate of Trinity High School in Washington County. 

                She was of the Presbyterian faith. 

                Martha enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.  She liked to crochet, do diamond art, gardening, yard work, and mowing.  She was an avid reader, enjoyed watching movies, and loved to host family gatherings and holidays, where she could bake and cook family meals.  She was known for her amazing buns and pierogis. 

                Mrs. Young worked in the cafeteria at both the Oil City and Franklin Hospitals, later becoming UPMC Northwest Hospital, for 45 years.  Following her retirement, she then worked in the cafeteria at the elementary schools in the area, where she really enjoyed the children. 

                She was married in Washington County on February 14, 1963 to Darrel Young, and he preceded her in death on July 6, 2013.

                She is survived by two children, Rodney Young (Cathy Young) of Oil City, and Marlene Young (Jason Mast) of Oil City; two granddaughters, Alizabeth Young-Johnson and Emma Vasil, both of Oil City; and her siblings, Doris Dawn Chase, Albert Conner (Rita), and Rita McDaid (Bruce); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. 

                In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son; and three sisters, Roxie Lee Nichols, Eva Dale Barnhart, and Betty McDowell. 

                Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of her Life on Saturday, May 3rd at Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, where a visitation gathering will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 1 p.m., officiated by Mr. Gregory Almes. 

                Interment will follow in Lamey Cemetery near Dempseytown, where she will be laid to rest with her husband. 

                In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to AseraCare Hospice, 12664 US Rte. 19, Waterford, PA  16441; or to the Oil City Library, 2 Central Ave., Oil City, PA  16301.
