Obituary

          Marcia Kay Slye, 78, of Oil City, died Wednesday night, July 12, 2023 at St. Vincent Hospital in Erie, following a period of declining health. 

          She was born in Oil City on March 17, 1945 to the late Quincy and Edna (Redman) Smith. 

          She was a 1963 graduate of Cranberry High School. 

          Marcia enjoyed reading, and was a NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt fan.  She loved spending time with her family and attending the school activities, ballgames, and dance recitals of her children and grandchildren.

          She attended the former Oil City Free Methodist Church for a number of years, and most recently had attended Seneca United Methodist Church. 

          In her earlier years, Marcia worked as a receptionist for Pennzoil, a clerk at Hileman Daffins in Oil City, and she retired in 2017 from Headline Hair, where she was a receptionist for many years. 

          She was married in the Free Methodist Church in Oil City on September 27, 1969 to James W. Slye, and he survives.  Also surviving is a daughter, Michelle Hoovler and her husband Jake of Oil City; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Hoovler of Oil City and Jenna Gahr of Utica; and a son-in-law, Josh Gahr and wife Jessica of Utica.

          Marcia is also survived by a brother-in-law, Fred Ziegler of Oil City; four sisters-in-law, Janet Johnsonbaugh (Don) of Bellefonte, Debbie Harrison (Terry) of State College, Joan Slye of Dayton, Ohio, and Judy Slye of Summerville, South Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

          In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jami Slye Gahr; a sister, Judy L. Ziegler; and her brothers-in-law, Richard Slye, Jack Slye and wife Janet, and Dale Slye. 

          Visitation will be held Sunday (July 16) from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. in Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, where a funeral service will be held Monday (July 17) at 11 a.m. with Rev. T. Christopher Hill, officiating.  Interment will follow in Brandon Cemetery in Cranberry. 

          Memorial contributions may be made to Venango Youth for Christ, P.O. Box 27, Seneca PA  16346; or to the Seneca Volunteer Fire Dept., P.O. Box 272, Seneca PA  16346.
