John P. “John Pat” McVay, 54, of Cranberry, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning, March 16, 2025 at UPMC Northwest from complications of pancreatic cancer.
John was born December 10, 1970 to the late Clarence Allen McVay and the late Daisy “Becky” (Pascorell).
He was a graduate of Cranberry High School.
John Pat was a friend to everyone, and beloved by so many. He was the man you called when you needed something and he never told anyone no.
He was employed with Kings Landscaping of Oil City
He is survived by his children: Jenna McVay (Quintin) of Franklin, Jessey McVay (Elsa) of Oil City, and Joel Shreffler of Cranberry
He was the best Papa ever to his three grandbabies; Wink (Quintin Jr.), Quinna, and Jenesee of Franklin
He is also survived by his siblings, Kate & Mary Hunsberger, and Daniel McVay, all of the Seneca/Rockland area; and Becky Cozad (Rick) of Gastonia, North Carolina.
He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews that were so very special to him, as well as his many cousins.
John was the neighborhood caretaker and had many special friends including Phil Cozad, Jim Whitehouse, Tom Mitchell and many others from his neighborhood who were all great friends.
He is also survived by his best friend Dave Ziegler of Oil City.
John had the personality to connect with all that he met, and he made many special bonds and friendships throughout the community.
He was an avid lover of his chickens, and tending his garden every year.
He also was a man the loved hauling scrap to Triple “S” and hanging out at Cranberry Kwik Fill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Amari McVay, a sister Marcy McVay Johnson, brother-in-law Ralph Hunsberger, uncles Jim & Dick Pascorell, and cousins Marilyn Page and Gene McVay.
Visitation will be held Tuesday (March 18) from 3 - 7 p.m. in Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, where a funeral service will follow Tuesday at 7 p.m. A graveside committal service and interment will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Rockland Cemetery. Funeral services will be conducted by his nephew; Pastor David McVay.
