Herbert Andrew “Herb” Oschman, of Hill City Rd., Seneca, passed peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, and left to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday evening, June 16, 2024.
Herb was brought into this world by his loving parents, Herbert and Lena (Daetwyler) Oschman, on June 27, 1936 in Romney, West Virginia.
In 1954, Herb graduated from White Memorial/ Keystone High School in Knox, Pennsylvania where he also met his spouse, L. Dianne (Cotherman) Oschman, who survives.
Herb and Dianne wed on June 29, 1957 at the Presbyterian Church in Knox and were happily married for 66 years. Herb departed just two weeks before their 67th wedding anniversary.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents, his parents-in-law, Stanley “Link” and his wife, Dorothy (Fye) Cotherman, a sister, Marie Barnett, a brother, Raymond Oschman, a brother-in-law, Samuel Venuto, a daughter-in law, Ruth (Cowles) Oschman, and a granddaughter, Nicole Reddinger.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are five children, Stanley Oschman and his wife, Donna, of Dallas, Pennsylvania, Pamala Mahle and her husband, Dean, of Kennerdell, Penny Knight and her husband, Tad, of Oil City, Kimberley Reddinger and her husband, David, of Cranberry and Shane Oschman and his wife, Bridgette, of Bradford, Pennsylvania. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, twelve great-great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Ronald Barnett of Knox; a sister-in-law, Joanne Venuto of Sebring, OH, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Herb is also survived by four lifetime friends, Jerry and Sandra Cobler of Knox and Fred and Johanna Dehart of Emlenton, whose friendship has blessed him and Dianne for over 70 years.
Herb held many professional positions over his life including farmer, truck driver, truck dispatcher/broker and insurance agent. Herb’s true passions included his camp in Marienville, golfing, hunting, spending every minute he could with family, blessing the community with a plethora of Christmas decorations and celebrating the Lord for over sixty years at Heckathorn United Methodist Church as well as Salem Reformed Church of Lamartine where he currently worshipped. Herb was a long time mason and belonged to Edenberg Masonic Lodge #550 F&AM in Knox and The Consistory Valley of New Castle.
Visitation will be held at the Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257, Seneca, Cranberry Twp., on Thursday, June 20 from 1-3PM. A funeral service will follow from the funeral home at 3PM with the Rev. Chris Lewis, pastor of Salem Reformed Church of Lamartine, officiating. Interment will be in Heckethorn Cemetery.
