Harold B. Silvis, 75, of Oil City, passed away Thursday evening, August 10, 2023 at home, surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born on April 9, 1948 in Sigel, PA on his granddad's farm. His parents are the late George and Nancy (Coon) Knapp.
Harold was a 1966 graduate of Clarion-Limestone School. He worked as a blaster for Amos L. Dobby for 27 years. He then went to work for Air Contact Transport for 14 years, retiring in 2012.
Harold was an avid hunter, successful with each hunting season. He was a hardworking man who always gave a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He loved his dogs, Sammy and Sophie. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Harold was married on August 16, 1997 to the former Cathy Settlemire Rutherford, who survives.
Also surviving are her children, Tracey Millin and her husband Jerry and their daughters Briann and Madison of Venus, Benjamin Rutherford and his wife Jaime and their children Trevor, Cooper, and Zoey of Seneca, all of whom Harold considered his own; Harold's children: Roxanne Silvis of Summerville, Colleen Wiser, Steve Silvis of Brookville, and Kelly Kaltenbach of Lucinda; and Harold's siblings, Sonja Zacherl and husband Gary of Erie, and Denny Knapp and wife Leah of Strattanville; his siter-in-law, Kim Schettler and husband Bill of Oil City; brother-in-law, Mike Settlemire and wife Paula of Seneca; brother-in-law, Jim Settlemire of Oil City; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding Harold in death were his parents, George and Nancy Knapp; his daughter, Colleen Wiser; and his in-laws, James and Shirley Settlemire.
Friends and family will be received Tuesday (August 15) from 4 - 6 p.m. in Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, where a memorial service to celebrate Harold's life will follow Tuesday at 6 p.m.
