Eugene A. "Gene" Miller, age 73, of Fertigs, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at AHN West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, following a brief illness.
He was born in Oil City on April 22, 1952 to the late Clarence and Helen (Gaddess) Miller.
He was a 1971 graduate of Cranberry High School.
Mr. Miller was a self-employed appliance repair technician before his retirement.
Gene enjoyed Civil War history as well as local history. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. His favorite quote was "weight is what broke the wagon down," which he affectionately shared with his grandchildren.
He was a lifetime member of the Pinegrove Township Volunteer Fire Department, serving as Chief from 1985 through 1997. He also served as a Forest Fire Warden. Gene was a Township Supervisor for Pinegrove Township for 34 years. He served as the President of the Oil Region Council of Government for ten years. Mr. Miller was the recipient of the Pennsylvania Department of Commerce and Economic Development Governor's Award for Local Government Excellence in 2021.
Gene was married in Oil City on February 24, 1973 to Beata J. Knavel, who survives. Also surviving are their two children, Lynette Crowe and her husband Virgil of Rouseville, and Travis Miller and his wife Shawna of Cranberry; three grandchildren, Niklos Kossman, and Myah and Scarlette Miller; a brother, Glenn Miller of Oil City; and his sisters, Beverly English and Carol Ferringer of Cambridge Springs, and Gloria Flinspach of Franklin; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Helen Miller; and his brothers, Danny, Ronnie, and Thomas Miller.
A visitation for friends and family will be held on Saturday (January 10) from 1 - 3 p.m. in Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pinegrove Volunteer Fire Dept., 2369 Rte. 157, Venus, PA 16364.
