Danny Shields Obituary

                 Danny B. Shields, 71, of Franklin, died at UPMC Northwest in Seneca on Friday afternoon, April 21, 2023, following a lengthy battle with his health. 

                He was born in Cranberry on May 21, 1951 to the late Edward E. and Audrey (Delaney) Shields .

                Danny was a 1971 graduate of Cranberry High School.

                He was proud to be an honorary member of the Fraternal Order of Police (F.O.P.), and was recently recognized at their banquet. 

                Danny was a very social person and loved people and loved helping people.  He enjoyed building, repairing, and tinkering around in his garage.  Danny also loved cars, especially Corvettes; collecting stuff; and the companionship of his cockapoo, Boonie. 

                Mr. Shields worked for Franklin Steel for thirteen years; and he also worked as an EMT for Community Ambulance, at Gardinier Funeral Home, and most recently worked as the maintenance supervisor for a regional airport located in Zanesville, Ohio. 

                He was married in Franklin on July 9, 2011 to the former Catherine J. (King), and she survives. 

                Also surviving is his son, Corey Shields and his wife Tammy of Franklin; a daughter, Phebe Mills and her husband David of West Virginia; and three grandchildren, Laken Shields of Franklin, Skylar Shields stationed in Las Vegas with the U.S. Air Force, and Jacy Blum of Franklin. 

                Danny is also survived by five sisters, Patt Rosenberg of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Marge McFetridge (Patrick) of Seneca, Terrie Croyle (Bud) of Rocky Grove, Deana Beach (Larry) of Oil City, and Kitty Richards (Doug) of Seneca; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  His mother-in-law survives, Nancy King of Franklin; as well as his brothers and sisters-in-law: Mike King (Micki), Sally Williams (Art), Linda Sabousky (Tom), Peggy Smeltzer, and Karol King; and many longtime close friends including Jerry Manross, Reid Weaver, Al Harrington, Dick Delaney, and Ray & Linda Beers. 

                In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Ralph King; and a brother-in-law, Richard King. 

                Visitation for friends and family will be held Wednesday (April 26) from 5-7 p.m. in Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, where a funeral service will follow Wednesday at 7 p.m.

                Danny’s family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the staff at Oakwood Heights, UPMC Northwest/ICU, and UPMC Northwest Palliative Care/Hospice for their love, care, and compassion.
