Chauncey "Dick" West Obituary

            Chauncey R. "Dick" West, 91, of Oil City, died early Thursday morning, June 13, 2024, at The Caring Place in Franklin. 

            He was born October 2, 1932 in Oil City to the late Chauncey West and Helen (Marshinkie) West Remus. 

            He was a graduate of Oil City High School. 

            He served in the U.S. Army and was active with the Hospice Support Unit. 

            He was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church in Oil City. 

            Dick was a Pittsburgh sports team enthusiast.  He also enjoyed hunting, and attending the sports and activities of his grandchildren - he was an avid Cranberry Berry fan.    

            Mr. West was employed as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service. 

            He was married in Franklin on October 29, 1955 to Donna M. (Chamberlain), and she preceded him in death on November 9, 2010. 

            He is survived by two daughters, Debbie Speerstra and her husband Henry of Oil City, and Diane West and her husband John Hupp of Seneca; four grandchildren: Hank Speerstra of Oil City, Kate Speerstra of Oil City, Lexi Green of Piitsburgh, and Casi Green of Pittsburgh; and a great-grandson, Kannon Speerstra.  Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. 

            In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Dixie West; and two brothers, John and Harold West. 

            Visitation will be held Tuesday (June 18) from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. in Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, where a funeral service will follow Tuesday at 1 p.m.  Rev. Mark Rusnak, chaplain at The Caring Place, will officiate.  Services will begin with full military honors accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard.  Interment will follow in Brandon Cemetery in Cranberry.
