Carl R. Daubenspeck

              Carl Robert Daubenspeck, 75, of the Butler V.A. Community Living Center, died Tuesday morning, February 19, 2019, following a lengthy battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS). 

                He was born in Oil City on June 21, 1943 to the late Paul Robert and Barbara Clara (Wagner) Daubenspeck. 

                Carl grew up in Shippenville, and attended Keystone High School. 

                Mr. Daubenspeck served in the U .S. Army as a mechanic from 1961 through 1964. 

                Mr. Daubenspeck was employed as a welder and mechanic for many years with C & K Coal Company, up until the time of his ALS diagnosis in 1982.  

                Following his diagnosis, he opened a gun shop, "The Outpost," in his home in Venus. 

                 He was of the protestant faith, and formerly attended services at the Seneca Evangelical Congregational Church.

                Carl enjoyed hunting, fishing, and target shooting.  He was also an accomplished wood worker and crafted many wooden signs.

                He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the N.R.A.

                He is survived by three children: Tammy A. Hall and her husband Brian of Oil City, Christopher L. Daubenspeck and his wife Shannon of Fryburg, and Amanda J. Dornberger and her husband Jacob of Oil City; two granddaughters, Morgan and Jordan Hall; and a grandson, Declan Dornberger. Also surviving is his former spouse, Mary Beth Daubenspeck of Oil City. 

                In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Daniel R. Daubenspeck; and a brother and his wife, Martin and Louise Daubenspeck. 

                Friends and family will be received Monday (Feb. 25) from Noon until 2 p.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township, where a funeral service will follow Monday at 2 p.m. with Chaplain Gary Clise from the Butler V.A. , officiating.  Interment with full military honors will follow in Tylersburg Cemetery, Clarion County. 

                Carl's family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the staff at the Butler V.A. Community Living Center where he resided for the past ten years, for the excellent care and compassion that they provided.
