Roger Glass Obituary

Roger K. Glass, 72, of Hale Road in Venus, Pinegrove Township, left his earthly home for his Heavenly Home at 11:40 a.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at his residence, surrounded by loving family following a lengthy illness.

He was born on September 10, 1945; the youngest of fourteen children born to the late Lester E. and Julia H. (McCauley) Glass.

                Roger attended Cranberry High School.

He had a love for the outdoors.  In his early years, he was employed at Wolfs Head Refinery in Reno, before pursuing his career in the forestry and logging industry where he could enjoy spending his work day outdoors.

Roger played and coached softball on several leagues throughout the years.  He enjoyed four-wheeling, playing horseshoes, hunting and fishing, and Pittsburgh sports, especially Steelers football.  He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Mr. Glass was a lifetime member of the Fertigs Church of God of Prophecy (now Lighthouse of Praise).  He served on the board of directors and as a deacon; and also helped to build the church.

He was a self-employed logging contractor for forty years.  Roger never met a stranger; he traveled over much of western Pennsylvania and had the opportunity through his work to meet many people and make many friends.

He  was married in Fertigs on September 24, 1966 to the former Barbara A. O'Neil, and she survives, along with their son, Dan Glass and his wife Kristen of Shippenville; a son-in-law, Andrew Slike of Shippenville; six grandchildren: Centina Gaston of Venus, Citaya Bucholtz of Oil City, Steven Glass, Jr. of Phoenix, Arizona, and Jonah, Jacob, and Eden Glass of Shippenville; and four great-grandchildren: Braydin Glass, and La'Stayzia, TayShon, and Monty Gaston.

Roger is also survived by two sisters, Marjorie Gifford of Oil City, and Jennie Morrison of Jackson, South Carolina; three brothers, Paul Glass of Venus, Robert Glass and wife Dorothy of Venus, and Richard Glass and wife Margaret of Mercer; his "favorite" mother-in-law, Violet M. O'Neil of Fertigs; three sisters-in-law, Pam (David) Lux of Reno, Bell O'Neil of Seneca, and Kathy O'Neil of Franklin; two brothers-in-law, Rick (April) O'Neil of Rockland, and Mike  (Sandy) O'Neil of Fertigs; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cristi Slike; a son, Steven S. Glass; his father-in-law, Ronald O'Neil; his brothers: Lester, Charles, James, Lawrence, and Leroy Glass; and his sisters: Esther Beck, Ethel Osborn, and Betty Culbertson.

Friends and family will be received Monday (July 9th) from 1 - 3 and 6 - 8 p.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township.  A funeral service will be held Tuesday (July 10) at 11 a.m. in the Lighthouse of Praise Church, 112 Winwood Lane in Venus (Camp Coffman Rd. in Fertigs).  Viewing will be held in the church Tuesday beginning at 10 a.m.  Rev. Jimmie Turner, church pastor, will officiate.

Interment will follow in Venus Cemetery.
