John W. Whitling, 61, of Oil City, died at 4:26 p.m. on Friday, October 26, 2018 at Clarion Hospital.
He was born in Oil City on May 30, 1957, a son of the late Harold Whitling, Sr. and Mary Jane (Birchard) Whitling.
John graduated from Cranberry High School in 1975.
He was a former member of the Rockland Volunteer Fire Department and the Rockland Sportsman Club.
Mr. Whitling attended the Living Waters Church in Meadville.
John enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and camping. He also enjoyed dirt track races, and going to the turkey shoots at the Rockland Sportsman Club.
He was employed by Hays Bakery, Electralloy, and the Seneca Quick Fill Station.
John was married to the former Candy Conway, and she preceded him in death.
Surviving are his siblings: Harold "Herdy" Whitling, Jr. and his wife Elaine of Rockland, Mary Anne Borland and her husband, Dr. Richard "Skip" Borland of Rockland, Joyce Daugherty of Rockland, Mike Whitling and his wife Kelly of Kennerdell, Mark Whitling of Rockland, Marcia Whitling of Rockland, Joe Whitling and his wife Angie of Oil City, and Jodi Whitling of Rockland. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Kiehl.
Visitation will be held Tuesday (Oct. 30) from 6-8 p.m. and on Wednesday (Oct. 31) from 10-11 a.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Cranberry Township. A memorial service will be held in the funeral home Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ray Martinez and Pastor Richard King, with the Living Waters Church, officiating.
Interment will follow in Rockland Cemetery.
