Janice Elaine Redding Obituary

The memorial service to celebrate the life of Janice Elaine Redding will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 18th in the Hile-Best Funeral Home.  Interment in Brandon Cemetery in Cranberry will follow.  At noon, a luncheon for family and friends will be held at the Oil City V.F.W.  (2 Relief St., Oil City, PA 16301).              

 

             Janice Elaine Redding, 91, of Oil City, died peacefully while with her loving family on Saturday night, June 30, 2018 at Oil City Healthcare.

            She was born on March 31, 1927 in Reno to the late Donald and Madeleine (Borland) Blossom. 

            She was a 1944 graduate of Oil City High School and received a bachelor's degree in education/history from Edinboro State College in 1972.

            Mrs. Redding was of the Methodist faith. 

            She was involved with the League of Woman Voters; volunteered at the WCA Hospital in Jamestown, New York; and was a member of the Chautauqua Lake Yacht Club. 

            Janice enjoyed reading, especially about history and politics; watching FOX News and having friendly political debates; and watching old movies and listening to Big Band music.  She will be remembered for her fun sense of humor. 

            She was a dedicated homemaker while raising and caring for her family and several family pets.  She also served as a substitute teacher in Warren, PA and Lakewood, NY. 

            Janice was married in Oil City on February 20, 1946 to Wade Martin Redding, Jr., and he preceded her in death on December 7, 1994. 

            Surviving are two sons, Wade Martin Redding, III and his wife Jill of Oil City; and Gregg Alan Redding and his wife Tina of Bloomington, Indiana; her grandchildren, Gregg Alan Redding, Jr. and Jessie Lee Capper; her fur-grandbaby, Jake; and a great-grandson, Grayson Redding. 

            Also surviving are two sisters, Joann Williams and her husband Dale of Erie, and Jean Williams and her husband Paul of Greenville; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

            In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Zimmerman; and brother, John Blossom. 

            Interment will be in Brandon Cemetery in Cranberry. 

            Funeral arrangements are being completed by Hile-Best Funeral Home in Seneca, Cranberry Township. 

            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oil City Healthcare (Activities Fund), 1293 Grandview Rd., Oil City, PA  16301; or to Venango County Humane Society, 286 S. Main St., Seneca, PA  16346.
