Dolores M. Rider, 90, of Innis Street, Oil City, died Tuesday evening, November 21, 2017 at Hamot Medical Center in Erie.

Dolores was born in Oil City on September 3, 1927.  She was the daughter of the late Warren and Esther McElhaney McKean.

She was a 1945 graduate of Oil City High School.  Following graduation she was employed for four years as a secretary  to the traffic manager for Pennzoil.  Later she was employed as a secretary with the Quaker State Oil Refining Corporation in Oil City and retired following 18 years of service.

Mrs. Rider was a long time member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Oil City.  She enjoyed reading, politics, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and was an avid animal lover, especially cats.  Dolores wanted everyone to know she had “a good long life, a wonderful husband, and three great children.”

Dolores was married to Samuel A. Rider on March 12, 1948.   Mr. Rider passed away on October 5, 2007, five months before what would have been the Riders’ 60th wedding anniversary.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are two daughters,  Bonnie Rider and Debbie Rider; a son, Jay Rider and his fiancé, Pam; two grandchildren, Justin Rider and Stefanie Rider, all of Oil City; a sister-in-law, Mary Heriot, of South Carolina, and Dolores's faithful feline companion, "Socks", her husky tuxedo cat."

She was preceded in death by two half-brothers, Neil Osborn and Paul McKean and a half-sister, Geraldine Samonsky.

The family would like to thank Dr. Fee, the staff at UPMC Northwest and Hamot Hospital, and STAT Medevac for their wonderful service and care.

The Rev. Byron Myers of Grace United Methodist Church in Oil City will officiate at a private family service.
