Daryol Proper Obituary

Daryol G. Proper, 69, of Anglers Rest Lane in Utica, died Friday, August 17, 2018 at his home.

He was born in Oil City on September 18, 1948 to Allene E. (McCray) Proper and the late LaVere W. Proper.

Daryol graduated from Cranberry High School and then studied drafting at the Pittsburgh Technical Institute.

He attended the Cochranton United Methodist Church.

He loved spending time outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and mowing grass. He liked working with his hands and enjoyed mechanics and building. Daryol was a family man who loved spending time with his family and his camp friends.

Mr. Proper first worked for Oilwell Supply Company in Oil City. He then worked in the maintenance department for Pymatuning State Park for 29 years. The job he loved the most was being the owner and operator of Anglers Rest Campground in Utica, since 1981.

He was married in the Cranberry United Methodist Church on November 8, 2002 to the former Vauna C. Vaughn, and she survives.

Also surviving is his mother, Allene E. Proper of Utica; his two sons, David Proper of Emlenton and Vincent Proper and his wife Christie of Cooperstown; five step-children: Tisha Harvey and her husband Matthew of Perrysville, Indiana, Curt Miller of Rossville, Illinois, Julie Warner and her husband Jarrod of Wellington, Illinois, Carrie Shipman and her husband Daniel of Attica, Indiana, and Jason Miller and his wife Lisa of Rossville, Illinois. His grandchildren include Lucas Proper, Paxton Proper, Taylor Johnston, Drew (Kelsey) Sheppard, Brandi (Josh) Taylor, Amie (Zach) Harvey, Evan (Brittany) Miller, Lauren (Russell) Denman, Aaron Shipman, Britney Shipman, Morgan Miller, Owen Miller, Macy Warner, Cale Warner, and Alana Miller; and his great-grandchildren, Hayden Taylor, Leena Sheppard, Kaydence, and Addyson.

Also surviving are two brothers, Allen Proper and his wife Helen of Washington, PA, and Ronald Proper and his wife Judy of Strongsville, Ohio; a sister, Bonnie Venturella and her husband Richard of Oil City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, LaVere W. Proper on July 26, 2009; and his grandparents, Ernest and Lena Proper, and Ralph and Grace McCray.

Friends and family will be received Wednesday  (Aug. 22) from 1 - 3 and 6 - 8 p.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home Thursday (Aug. 23) at 1 p.m. with Rev. Terry Shaughnessy, pastor of Cochranton United Methodist Church, officiating. He will be laid to rest on his property in Utica.
