Clara L. "Katie" (Meade) Miller

September 8, 1930 ~ December 4, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old


             Clara Louise "Katie" (Meade) Miller, 87, of Seneca, was welcomed by Jesus into her new Home in Heaven on Monday morning, December 4, 2017 at Oakwood Heights in Oil City. She has loved, worshiped, and served the Lord for many years.      

            She was born in Rockland on September 8, 1930 to the late Claude and Elsie (Rembold) Meade. 

            She attended schools in Rockland, and graduated from Cranberry High School in 1948.

            In her early years, she attended Cranberry United Methodist Church where she assisted with children's church and Sunday school.  In more recent years, she attended the Seneca Evangelical Congregational Church.   

            Katie enjoyed roller skating and listening to the old family Victrola, which helped inspire her love for music.  She was a gifted musician, playing the violin in the school orchestra.  She enjoyed singing duets with her sister, and also used her talents by singing with her girls; she especially loved singing hymns.  While in her 70's, she learned to play the piano. 

            Mrs. Miller was a dedicated homemaker and an excellent baker.   She also worked at the Kresge Five & Dime Store and as a teacher's aide at Steffee Elementary School in Seneca.   

            She was married in the Cranberry United Methodist Church on September 13, 1948 to Harold "Dean" Miller, and he survives.  They recently celebrated 69 years of marriage. 

            Also surviving are four children:  Karen D. Polonsky and her husband Denis of Polk, Laurie J. Mong and her husband Ronald of Oil City, Barry L. Miller and his wife Diane of Franklin, and Kevin D. Miller and his wife Stacey of Seneca; ten grandchildren:  Joanna Kutchravy, Charles Polonsky and wife Margaret, Michael Mong and wife Kinsey, Rebecca Childs and husband Drew, Steven Mong and wife Kathleen, Andrew Mong and his fiancé Caroline Weber, Logan Miller, and Addison, Tyler, and Emilee Miller; and ten great-grandchildren:  Benjamin and Lauryn Millard, Arik and Zachary Kutchravy, Jonny and Mary Polonsky, and Audrey, Ellie, Jacob, and Owen Mong.   

            In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Ronald, Harold, and Robert Meade; and two sisters, Ruth Blauser and Dorothy Bigelow. 

            Friends will be received Thursday (Dec. 7th) from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township.  A funeral service will be held in the funeral home Friday (Dec. 8th) at 11 a.m. with Rev. Kenton Shaw officiating.  Interment will follow in Brandon Cemetery in Cranberry.
