William L. "Bill" Moon, Jr.

January 26, 1961 ~ October 4, 2016 (age 55) 55 Years Old


                William L. " Bill" Moon, Jr., 55, of Oil City, went home to his Lord and Savior Tuesday afternoon, October 4, 2016, due to injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident. 

                He was born in Oil City on January 26, 1961, the son of William L. Moon, Sr. and Ginger (Flinchbaugh) Moon.

                Bill graduated with the class of 1979 from Cranberry High School, and later attended Clarion University. 

                He was a proud member of the N.R.A., the Bucktails of Venango County, and the Izaak Walton League.

                Mr. Moon was a former member of Heckathorn United Methodist Church, and currently a member of Seneca United Methodist Church, where he enjoyed singing bass in the church choir, served on various committees and as head usher, and was active in his Sunday school class. 

                Bill was an avid hunter and enjoyed hunting with his buddies and uncles, Jim, Jack, and Jeff.  He was a history buff and concentrated on Civil War and World War II history, and enjoyed participating in French and Indian War reenactments and events.  He was a Pittsburgh Steelers football fan, enjoyed riding his motorcycle, and dressing up and portraying Santa Clause for Christmas.  He and his wife recently enjoyed traveling to Maine, Williamsburg, and Mt. Vernon, Virginia. 

                Mr. Moon worked as an assistant manager for Long John Silver's restaurants in Reno and Clarion for twelve years.  He then became employed in the shipping department for Miller Equipment, now Honeywell in Franklin, for the past twenty-two years. 

                Bill was married in the Heckathorn United Methodist Church in Seneca on May 21, 1983 to the former Tina R. Goodman, and she survives, along with his parents, William and Ginger Moon of Cranberry; two daughters, April R. Moon of Oil City, and Rachel L. Kapp and her husband Brandon of Seneca; and his only granddaughter, Lydia Kapp, who brought so much joy to his life. 

                Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Marcie Perry and her husband Carl and their daughter Lindsay, of Oil City; two brothers-in-law, Tim Goodman and Mark Goodman and his fiancé Amy Stamm, all of Oil City; and numerous aunts and uncles, including an especially close set, James and Judy Flinchbaugh of Venus, and their daughter, Kim Spring. 

                He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Eugene and Geraldine Flinchbaugh and Claire and Marie Moon; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Glenn and Delores Goodman. 

                 Family and friends will be received on Friday (Oct. 7) from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, Inc., 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township.  The funeral service will be held Saturday (Oct. 8) at 11 a.m. in the Seneca United Methodist Church, 196 East State Road in Seneca.  Friends will be received at the church Saturday from 10 - 11 a.m.  The Rev. William E. Hastings, church pastor, and the Rev. Dennis Henley, will officiate.  Private interment will follow in Heckathorn Cemetery in Seneca. 

                Memorial contributions may be made to the Seneca U.M. Church, 196 East State Rd., Seneca, PA  16346.
