Leroy D. Huffman

December 8, 1941 ~ June 6, 2016 (age 74) 74 Years Old


                Leroy D. Huffman, 74, of Laurel Terrace Road, Franklin, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday afternoon, June 6, 2016 at St. Vincent Hospital in Erie following a lengthy illness. 

                He was born in Redbank Township, Clarion County on December 8, 1941 to the late Wallace D. and Ruth Eileen (Fowler) Huffman. 

                He was a 1960 graduate of Cranberry High School.  He then served in the U.S. Air Force from 1960 through 1964.  He was stationed in Okinawa, as an airplane mechanic.

                Mr. Huffman was a dedicated member of the Seneca Evangelical Congregational Church where he served on the church board, and loved to sing. 

                In 2002 he participated in a mission trip to Haiti and thoroughly enjoyed that experience.  He had a passion for bringing others to know Jesus Christ. 

                Leroy enjoyed bowling, hunting, and spending time with his loving family. 

                He was first employed by United Natural Gas, then worked at the Box Plant in Reno, and retired in 2000 from the Continental Can Co. in Oil City following 35 years of service.  He also drove school bus for the Cranberry school district.    

                He was married in the Van United Methodist Church on June 20, 1964 to the former Delores J. Boyer, and she survives. 

                Also surviving are three children:  Brent Huffman and his wife Tina of Orlando, Florida, Brian Huffman and his wife Angela of Seneca, and Shelly Ghrist and her husband David of Seneca; seven grandchildren:  Eric, Kyle, Josh, Rachel, Ryan, Jared, and Jordan; and one great-granddaughter, Felicity Ghrist. 

                He is also survived by his sister, Ruby Haupt and her husband Richard of Rockland; two brothers, Harry Huffman and his wife Sharon of Seneca, and Donald Huffman of Rocky Grove; his mother-in-law, Donna Boyer of Franklin; a sister-in-law, Eileen Morrison and her husband Donald of Titusville; his aunt, Evelyn Hall of Michigan; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

                In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Stephanie Huffman; and his father-in-law, Edgar "Bud" Boyer. 

                A private graveside committal service will be held for the immediate family in Heckathorn Cemetery in Seneca, officiated by Rev. Janor Bestwick, pastor of Seneca Evangelical Congregational Church. 

                The Hile-Best Funeral Home in Seneca, Cranberry Township is completing funeral arrangements. 

                In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Seneca E.C. Church, 2844 Rte. 257, Seneca, PA  16346.
