Jeanie A. Umstead

Jeanie A. Umstead, 71, of Seneca, went Home to be with the Lord on Saturday afternoon, October 21, 2017 at Oakwood Heights in Oil City.

She was born in Butler on June 10, 1946, a daughter of the late Eugene F. and Martha A. (Rihel) McMurdy.

Mrs. Umstead was a 1964 graduate of Cranberry High School.

She was actively involved in several bowling leagues in the Seneca area, volunteered with the Meals-on-Wheels program in the Seneca/Oil City area, and served on the Board of Elections as a poll worker for Cranberry Township.

She was a member of Seneca United Methodist Church, where she helped with the Cranberry Area Food Pantry, and was active with the Prayer Blanket Ministry.

Jeanie enjoyed knitting, reading, and spending time with her loving family, especially her grandchildren.  She was an avid sports fan, especially for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers.

She was employed as a manager for the Hileman & Daffin store in Oil City, retiring in 2003 after 28 years of service.

She was married in the Seneca United Methodist Church on September 25, 1965 to Charles L. "Chuck" Umstead, and he preceded her in death on May 17, 2000.

Jeanie is survived by two daughters, Debra M. Miller and her husband John of East Liverpool, Ohio, and Darla J. Creighton and her husband Brian of Seneca; and five grandchildren: Chas, Nick, and Emily Miller, Sarah Gilbert and her husband Tim, and Jacob Creighton.

Also surviving is a sister, Gladys Sweeney of Seneca; two brothers, Joe McMurdy and his wife June, and Alan McMurdy and his wife Gayle, all of Seneca; two brothers-in-law, Ronnie Umstead and his wife Sis, and Al Umstead and his wife Phyllis; a sister-in-law, Sandra Sue Umstead; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jeanie was preceded in death by her sister, Sandra Emanuele; and her brother, Thomas McMurdy.

Friends and family will be received Monday (Oct. 23rd) from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township. A funeral service will be held Tuesday (Oct. 24th) at 11 a.m. in the Seneca United Methodist Church, 196 East State Road in Seneca. The Rev. William E. Hastings, church pastor, will officiate. A visitation will be held in the church one hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday.

Interment will be in Brandon Cemetery, Cranberry.
