Gladys L. Huffman

February 10, 1930 ~ April 27, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old


           Gladys L. Huffman, 87, of Franklin, formerly of Knox, went Home to her Lord and Savior on Thursday evening, April 27, 2017 at The Caring Place in Franklin, where she had resided for the past five years. 

          She was born to the late Melvin L. and Claribel (McDonald) Bessler in Oil City on February 10, 1930.

          She was a graduate of Cranberry High School. 

          Mrs. Huffman was a former member of the Nazarene Church in Clarion; and enjoyed attending and playing the piano at the worship services held at The Caring Place chapel.

          Gladys enjoyed music, both singing and playing the piano.  She was an avid reader, especially her Bible, and American Indian history.  Gladys cherished the time she spent with her family and friends. 

          In her earlier years, before becoming a dedicated homemaker, she worked as a legal secretary for the Rosen law firm, and was a clerk at Brody's department store in Oil City. 

          She was married to Robert E. Huffman, and he preceded her in death. 

          Surviving are four children:  Deanna Moore and her husband David of Grove City, Daniel Carson and his partner Michael Mankenberg of Arizona, David Paul Carson and his wife Frances of Franklin, and Donna J. Carson of Seattle, Washington; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; a brother, Peter Bessler of Oil City; a sister, Carol DeYoung of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. 

          In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Baum and Joyce Bessler. 

          Friends and family will be received Tuesday (May 2) from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday (May 3) from 10-11 a.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township.  A funeral service will be held in the funeral home Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Linda Deeter, a close friend of the family, officiating.  A Committal service and interment will follow in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.
