Delores J. Moon

August 3, 1930 ~ March 13, 2017 (age 86) 86 Years Old


            Delores J. Moon, 86, of Oil City, went Home to be with the Lord early Monday morning, March 13, 2017 at UPMC Hamot Hospital in Erie.

            She was born in Oil City to the late Walter and Hazel (Johnson) Brockway on August 3, 1930.

            She graduated from the Oil City High School with the class of 1949.

            Mrs. Moon attended the Hasson Heights Community Church in Oil City.

            In her earlier years, she was employed as a sales clerk with Woolworth's and J.C. Penney department stores.  She then became a dedicated homemaker, caring for her family. 

            Delores was sports fan, especially rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins.  She enjoyed writing poetry, listening to music, decorating, flower gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

            She first married Ernest L. "Skip" Slye, Jr., and he preceded her in death in 1973.  She later married Bobby A. Moon in Oil City on December 16, 1977, and he survives. 

            Also surviving are two children, Dennis Slye of Slippery Rock, and Becky Sue Klapec and her husband, Daniel, of Oil City; four grandchildren:  Mandy Kightlinger and her husband Michenzie "Mic" of Evans City, Joe Klapec and his wife Sue of Erie, Shanna Austin and her husband Taylor of Butler, and Krystle Slye of Grove City; and six great-grandchildren: Kaelyn and Cooper Klapec, Addison Kightlinger, Sayge Ottenberg, Ivy Austin, and Riley Barger.

            Delores is also survived by a sister, Sue Stuck of Oil City; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

            In addition to her parents and her first husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia Leach and Vivian Morris; a brother, Walter Brockway, Jr.; and an infant son, Ricky Slye. 

            A memorial service will be held Wednesday (March 15th) at 11 a.m. in the Hasson Heights Community Church, 21 Fairview Ave. in Oil City, with Rev. Jamie Fowler, church pastor, officiating.    

            The Hile-Best Funeral Home in Seneca, Cranberry Township is completing funeral arrangements.
